It’s not a boring scene, despite the repetition.
Why is he repeating the names ? It seems like he’s crossing sonorities, to see how they mix up together. To check out which name sounds better, as if he was comparing them. Maybe he’s trying to take some weight out of the names by repeating them. Maybe he’s trying to deal with something connected to these names – like in Brave New World (Aldous Huxley, 1932) with the counting of the snake bites. It’s as if he was trying to get rid of them, by losing the reaction he has to their names.
It looks like he’s in a trance, fixing his eyes on the mirror – without blinking – and repeating the names non-stop. He seems takes over by an obsession and the eye-contact he keeps with himself through the window allows him to observe himself while being outside of it. He’s confronting himself, to see how he reacts to the name of each woman, he then repeats his own name, to come back to himself and he has to stop looking at himself. It’s only when he washes his face that he manages to let it go.
