Escola Secundária de Serpa

Olá! Somos um grupo de 22 alunos dos dois últimos anos do Curso de Línguas e Humanidades da Escola Secundária de Serpa, no Sul de Portugal. 

Temos gostos diversificados. Uns gostam de desporto, outros de dança, outros pertencem ao Clube de Jornalismo da Escola, ao Clube de Voluntariado e ao Clube de Teatro. Muitos pertencem ao Parlamento Europeu dos Jovens.

Gostamos muito de comunicar em várias línguas, mas principalmente, em português, espanhol e inglês. Também gostamos de viajar. Este ano pensamos ir à França e à Grécia. Estamos muito entusiasmados com o Projeto Cinema. Vai ser muito enriquecedor. 

A nossa escola é Escola Embaixadora do Parlamento Europeu. Adoramos os espaços exteriores, pois temos muitas árvores e muita luz, própria da nossa região do Alentejo. 

Gostaríamos muito de receber alguns de vocês na nossa cidade de Serpa!

École Secondaire de Serpa

Salut ! Nous sommes un groupe de 22 élèves des deux dernières années du Cours de Langues et Humanités de l’École Secondaire de Serpa, au Sud du Portugal.

Nous avons des goûts différents. Certains aiment le sport, d’autres la danse, d’autres encore appartiennent au Club de Journalisme de l’École, au Club de Volontariat ou au Club de Théâtre. Plusieurs appartiennent au Parlement Européen des Jeunes.

On aime beaucoup communiquer en plusieurs langues, mais principalement en portugais, espagnol et anglais. On aime aussi voyager. Cette année, on pense aller en France et en Grèce. On est très enthousiaste par le Projet Cinéma. Ce sera très enrichissant.

Notre école est l’École Ambassadrice du Parlement Européen. On adore les espaces extérieurs, puisque nous avons beaucoup d’arbres et de lumière caractéristiques de notre région l’Alentejo.

Nous aimerions beaucoup vous recevoir dans notre ville de Serpa.

Studying ‘Motifs’

We have already watched lots of clips as we begin our exercises. What we have enjoyed so far:

  1. That motifs can be audio as well as visual – for example the sounds of bird calling in repeated scenes at similar moments
  2. The motifs can be places themselves but also aspects of places – for example the lighting or the recurrence of a feature like the goldfish.

We particularly like the idea of light for a character or a scene and feel we will try and use this idea in our own filming.

Le motif de l’instrument de musique ( extraits vus en classe)

Le son et la musique sont des éléments importants du film, mais parfois l’instrument, au-delà du motif musical, devient un véritable motif de l’œuvre.

Présentation de l’atelier au collège Thomas Mann à Paris

Bonjour !

Nous sommes 11 élèves internes du collège Thomas Mann, situé dans le 13ème arrondissement de Paris, près de la Bibliothèque François Mitterrand. Nous avons entre 11 et 15 ans (de la 6ème à la 3ème).

Le collège abrite le seul internat public de l’Académie de Paris. En plus des 500 élèves externes, il y a une quarantaine d’élèves internes ; nous restons à l’internat pendant la semaine et rentrons chez nous le week-end et pendant les vacances.

St Margaret’s Primary, England

We are a group of 9 to 11 year old children in Lincolnshire. Our school is very small and not far from the sea. Annabelle, loves gymnastics; Grace has a lot of cats; Kitty thinks she is very sensible and loves her dog; Tristan, thinks he is a ‘God’ (!) ands reads books by the dozen and loves cats ; Max and Emily aren’t here right now, but Max is a footballer who plays for a local team and Emily is also a dog person.

Our school is small – there are only 74 children in the school and we have participated in the CCAJ project for many years.

Depois, cada um de nós escolheu um motivo dentro da escola e filmamos o primeiro exercício. Estes são os fotogramas que escolhemos do nosso primeiro exercício.

Apresentação do grupo da Escola Secundária Marquês de Pombal

Representamos um grupo de 23 alunos da Escola Secundária Marquês de Pombal, situada na cidade de Lisboa, que frequentam o curso Profissional Técnico de Multimédia e somos de diversas nacionalidades nomeadamente, portuguesa, nepalesa, senegalesa, angolana e bengali.

A nossa expetativa visa conseguir levar a cabo este projeto, partilhando esta experiencia enriquecedora entre nós e com os alunos dos países envolvidos e quem sabe com o resto do mundo.

We are a group of 23 students from Escola Secundária Marquês de Pombal, located in the city of Lisbon, who attend the Professional Technical Multimedia course and we are of different nationalities: Portuguese, Nepalese, Senegalese, Angolan and Bengali.

Our expectation is to be able to carry out this project, sharing this enriching experience among ourselves and with students from the countries involved and who knows with the rest of the world.

Hi Im Arnas. I like playing computer games and going outside with my friends. I like to meet new people and getting to know them.

Erikas. I’m 17 years old and I look old for my age. I enjoy playing volleyball, playing games and photography. I’m most comfortable standing behind the camera where I can shoot what’s happening in front of me. I love turning great ideas into reality.

Hello, I am Ugnė. In Lithuanian, my name means fire. It probably reveals my personality – I am energetic and stubborn. I like to live an active life, but I also can’t resist rest and a good nap. I adore long walks outside with a cup of green tea. When creating a cinema, I want to convey a person’s everyday life, his natural feelings, unobtrusive details that make up our daily life.

My name is Tomas and I am 17 years old. I am an aviation fan. I have no experience with filmmaking but now is a great opportunity to gain that new experience.

I am Elija, 17 years old. Currently I am attending musical school in which I play the accordion and guitar. Some of my biggest hobbies are reading, finding new music and watching intriguing films or TV shows. I have been interested in the film industry for at least 3 years. My favorite genres of films or TV shows are action, thrillers, science fiction, fantasy and drama.

My name is Vainius. I’d like to say that I’m an ordinary person, not really extravagant I do enjoy discussing films, interests, politics and more with friends. I also think that sound design makes or breaks things like films, movies, short films and similar, some of the best and my favorite scenes from films are with iconic and great sounds, songs. But at the end of the day I’d say I am an average person with average interests and activities.

My name is Rokas. I like watching movies. And I enjoy playing games with my friends. While watching movies, I experience emotions that I do not experience anywhere else.

Hey, I’m Greta and I’m 17 years old. I’m quite chatty, so in most cases it’s easy for me to interact with others. Well, I could say that I like stepping out of my comfort zone and challenging myself by doing so. I’m intrigued and fascinated by people with different cultures than mine, so to meet people unalike would be a pleasure. By making a movie I hope to find out and learn new things about cinematography and even about myself.

Appreciate the man while he is still alive, you won’t bring him back by using tears. An empty wallet, stomach and a broken heart are the best teachers in life. Distance doesn’t separate people, silence does.

Mustang: film review

The movie we are going to present is entitled “Mustang”. « Mustang » is a Turkish drama film. It was directed by Deniz Gange Ergüyen and released in 2015. It is starring Güneş Şensoy as Lale, Doğa Doğuşlu as Nur, Elit İşcan as Ece, Tuğba Sunguroğlu as Selma and İlayda Akdoğan as Sonay. The film is inspired by the director’s personal life. It was selected for the Festival de Cannes in 2015 and it was awarded 4 Césars in 2016 in addition to many other awards.

The film is set in a small Turkish village and the story takes place nowadays. It revolves around Lale, the youngest of the children. The film is about five sisters who start off being free and end up being completely deprived of their freedom just because they were seen playing with boys. The family house turns into a prison, school is replaced by cooking lessons and chores, and marriages are arranged. We get to see the girls grow up and get tougher as their lives become harder. Soon it is no longer their respect for their family that drives them but their desire for freedom.

It allows us to compare women’s situation in Turkey to ours in Western Europe. We are very admirative of the strength and bravery of the women we have seen. The story is really catching and we grow to really care for the characters. Our favourite moment is when the girls decide to go out to see a football game without their uncle’s permission, because the aunts are doing all they can to keep the men from discovering where the sisters are. In that moment, their love for the girls surpasses their conservative beliefs.

The only negative aspect we found is that some parts of the movie can be a little confusing because the characters are hard to keep up with.

To sum up, this film is a great way to realize the luck we have as women in Western European countries, and it is a true tribute to Turkish women. We would highly recommend this film to anyone interested in the place of women in society, or simply to anyone who wants to watch a story about sisterhood, love, and bravery.

A motif is a repeated narrative element that has a deeper meaning in a story. It can be different things like physical items, colors, or symbols. In Mustang, there are lots of patterns but one that particularly stands out is the sisters’ long and voluminous hair. First, the motif appears in the title: the mustang is a horse, and his mane is reminding us of the girls’ hair. We can therefore compare the indomitable temperament of this horse breed to the girls’ temperament. We get to see the girls’ hair loose every time they are free. The motif of the hair is present in numerous scenes, for instance, in the beginning of the film, when their uncle gets angry, grabbing the girls’ hair is a way for him to control them, to deprive them of their freedom.

It is also worth mentioning that when Lale makes a doll using her hair to put in her bed before she escapes, cutting her hair is a way for her to get freedom, which surprisingly makes sense because in Turkish culture, women are considered beautiful when they have long hair, so when Lale is cutting hers, she is rebelling against the status quo.

We also noticed that their grandmother, who is conflicted between protecting the sisters and standing by her very traditional and old-fashioned values, is just as deprived of freedom as her granddaughters, and the motif of the hair is used to show that: her hair is tied up all day in a bun and she only lets it loose right before sleeping.
